I very much support Mary Ainscow’s view (Letters, April 2) that everyone should use their vote, despite widespread disillusionment with the current batch of politicians and party leaders.

She rightly acknowledges the option of voting for the Green Party. Most Green Party members, activists and elected representatives are there because they too have been deeply disillusioned with the grey politics of the other parties, and believe that the politics of the future has to offer something better.

The Green Party can also be justly proud of its leader – Caroline Lucas MEP, was rated last year as the best British member of the European Parliament on transparency, accountability and democracy by campaign group Open Europe.

With decades of experience as a community activist and ten years as a very active member of the European Parliament, Caroline is passionately committed to working for a fairer society locally and globally. She is now looking very likely to win the Brighton Pavilion seat for the Green Party in the General Election.

She leads a party which is standing on a comprehensive and fully costed manifesto. This combines a commitment to tackle climate change and diminishing natural resources with measures to deal with the financial crisis, protect our public services, create a million new jobs through the Green New Deal and bring about a fairer and more equal society. Further details can be found at greenparty.org.uk Here in York the Green Party also has local councillors, a track record and a great deal of support.

A vote for long-time community activist and Green Party prospective Parliamentary candidate for York Central, Andy Chase, will indeed be a vote well used.
