HARD-WORKING medical staff keeping their colleagues safe from swine flu have been recognised for their efforts at York Hospital.
Nurse manager Christina Evriviades was handed a Star Performer Award by hospital bosses after the NHS Foundation Trust was ranked top in the region for vaccinating the highest number of front-line staff.
Christina worked alongside colleagues in the occupational health team to immunise staff as part of the hospital’s influenza pandemic contingency plans.
Dr Alastair Turnbull, medical director for York Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I am pleased at the high uptake we have seen among our staff, and the occupational health team’s award is well deserved. However, there are still staff who have yet to be vaccinated, and I would encourage them to do so to help protect themselves, their families and their patients.
“It is likely there will be further waves of the virus in the late summer or early autumn and it is also likely that this will be the predominant strain of flu causing disease for the next few years.”
