A GOLDEN ticket promotion has seen KitKat sales double, as Big Brother fans snap up the York-made bars.
Manufacturer Nestl Rowntree placed 100 golden tickets in KitKat bars at their York factory, with lucky winners put into a draw to win a place in the Big Brother house.
The promotion - reminiscent of Roald Dahl's story Charlie And The Chocolate Factory - has seen bars flying off the shelves.
A Nestl spokesperson said the sales increase in some shops was between 1,000 and 2,000 per cent.
The promotion runs until Friday and, as The Press went to print today, Nestl said 94 of the 100 tickets were still to be found.
The spokesperson said: "The nation is the midst of a KitKat Golden Ticket frenzy!
"We have seen national sales of KitKat literally double overnight as people up and down the country hunt out the remaining tickets, and with 94 still to be found who can say how much further sales will increase by over the coming week. What's more, retailers are also seeing extraordinary results. Many with Big Brother promotional displays are experiencing between a 1,000 per cent and 2,000 per cent increase in KitKat sales, which has never been seen before. Our factory and supply chain teams are working flat out, 24 hours a day, to keep pace with this phenomenal demand."
