IN RESPONSE to P S McCabe's recent letter (Wounded Pride, May 3), I would like to confirm that the book bank at Hazel Court was emptied by Oxfam on Wednesday, May 3.
We are working with Oxfam to put either a larger or additional bank at this site to accommodate all the books that residents want to recycle. We have reminded staff at the site that books should be put to one side if the bank is full.
We have also been in touch with the companies that empty the recycling banks and clean the recycling area at Bishopthorpe Road car park, to remind them of their responsibilities and ensure that the banks are regularly serviced.
We would like to thank all those residents who take the time and the trouble to use recycling facilities in York and apologise if they have encountered similar difficulties to those experienced by Mr McCabe.
We take complaints of this nature extremely seriously and are doing everything we can to keep the sites tidy and ensure that there is room in the banks.
Elizabeth Wray,
Waste Services Project Officer,
Foss Islands Depot, York.
