HALF centuries for both Nick Hadfield and Mike Burdett saw Woodhouse Grange gain a comfortable six-wicket victory over newly-promoted Stamford Bridge in the premier division of the Hunters the Estate Agent York and District Senior Cricket League.

Bridge had been restricted to 158-7 with Phil Hill making 31 and Paul Milner 35 but this proved to be inadequate as Hadfield made 64 and Burdett 61 to take the maximum 30 points.

Clifton Alliance maintained their reputation for successful run chases when they overhauled Hull Zingari's 228-7 in 46.3 overs to win by six wickets.

Aussie Danny Salpietro led Hull's batting with 96 while Ali Markham added 29 as Frances Hawthorne claimed 3-46.

When Alliance replied, Mark Taylor made 67 and John Gilham 31. Skipper Richard Musgrave followed with an unbeaten 32 but the coup-de-gras was applied by Paul Boraston who blasted 54 not out off just 38 balls to take Alliance to a convincing win.

Scott Nicholls hit an unbeaten 82 and Joey Burton made 51 as Acomb posted a first innings total of 195-7 at Sessay.

In reply, former Duncombe Park player Mark Wilkie made 26 and Aussie Dave Johnson 35 but the villagers struggled against an attack spearheaded by Dave Sykes who took 5-42. With Glyn Botterill supporting with 3-38, Sessay had to hang on for a draw at 135-9.

The biggest disappointment of the day was experienced by Pickering when their game against Beverley Town was abandoned with ten overs to go and the home side needing just 20 runs for victory with nine wickets still in the bank.

Beverley had made 180-9 before Mark Shepherd, with 89no and Colin Frank 48no added an unbroken 109 before the game was called off with Pickering on 161-1.

The rain caused the abandonment of the game at Malton after 36 overs of the second innings and this cut off a promising climax. Heworth, batting first, had posted a total of 190-7 with a quartet of contributions from Ian Lynch (39), skipper Richard Bowling (46), Ian Wilson (33) and Rich Winterburn (33no). Spinner Danny Foxton, with 3-64 was the most successful bowler for Malton who had replied with 117-3 in 36 overs when the rains took control.

Dan Davies had fallen for 37 but with Greg Johnson on 30no and Garry Hall on 35no, Malton appeared to be well placed to push for victory.
