THE York FA Saturday Junior Cup Final between the reserve sides of Bishopthorpe and Dunnington at Tadcaster Albion was a real nail-biter.

Dunnington goalkeeper Mike Edmondson was the hero as his save in the penalty shootout earned his side their silverware.

The early attacking came from Dunnington and a great shot by Mike Noble produced a tremendous save by Bishopthorpe goalie Darren Wiseman.

Darren Miles shot just past the post for Bishopthorpe, while Wiseman was again brought into action to deny Dunnington's Tom Williamson.

With only two minutes of the first half remaining a cross from the left was met by Noble to put Dunnington into an interval lead.

In a scrappy second half Bishopthorpe began to take the upper hand and, with 15 minutes remaining, levelled when a ball from the right was knocked in first time by Paul Broadbent.

With only two minutes of normal time remaining Dunnington thought they had netted the winner, but referee Chris Woodall had spotted an infringement.

The extra time produced few chances and the score finished at 1-1 forcing the game into a penalty shootout. The first 11 penalties found the back of the net and then Edmondson produced a fine save for his side to win 6-5 on penalties.

The presentation of the Riley-Smith Cup was made by Brian Shearer, life vice-president of York FA.
