IN response to T Scaife's letter (Bin muddle, May 3) regarding the weekly bin collection.

When the idea was first introduced I wasn't too happy about it, but after giving it a go I don't have a problem with it at all now.

By recycling plastic (mainly milk and juice bottles in my house), tins, glass, aerosols and paper (mainly junk mail in my house).

I take all my cardboard to the facility at Tesco, in Tadcaster Road, York (until it will be collected roadside).

By doing all this, my black bin is never full after a fortnight and I have a family of four.

It is obviously those who don't actively recycle are those with overflowing bins moaning about it.

I agree that although the green bin is not going to be full every fortnight, perhaps we could have used that for plastic/cardboard, but that would have been difficult for actual emptying.

It really is not difficult to recycle, I've even trained my five-year-old to do it! If just a little bit of effort from us can change the amount of waste that goes to landfill, then I think it is worthwhile.

Perhaps the council should reward the best recyclers with a reduction in council tax?

Just a thought.

Chaloners Road,

York.
