EXACTLY which part of "Pay And Display" did Chris Grosvenor not understand? (Drink-drive ticket fury, May 5).

Did it really come as a shock for him to be fined for parking without a valid ticket, or are things different in Pocklington?

If he knew he was going to be drinking and leaving his car overnight, then why didn't he use alternative means to travel to York, or at least read the terms and conditions at the car park.

Maybe he could be forgiven for thinking that the car park didn't "open" until 9am, but that doesn't explain his not arriving until 9.30am.

As for his comment "Surely a forward-thinking council should provide areas for drivers to park instead of drink-driving". They do, Mr Grosvenor. They are called car parks. And as for "at least have a tolerance the next day to give people the chance to collect their cars - I don't think that sounds unreasonable!" He did have a chance to collect his car until 8am without incurring a ticket.

Nobody likes receiving a parking ticket, but I really do not think that Mr Grosvenor can blame anyone else but himself.
