New Earswick completed their indoor bowls season with some exciting league play-off finals.
The men's pairs were a case in point as Ken Plowman's team took the lead for the first time in the game on the penultimate end to have a two shot advantage only for Ian Farrar's team to take the honours with a five.
In the men's triples, Dave Kermode's side levelled at 18-18 on the last end and then snatched a single to beat Alan Iveson's team.
John Quinn took the men's fours with a 29-16 victory over Les Jackson's team.
Margaret Moss beat Brenda Keller 21-13 in the women's pairs. In the triples, Moss was tied at 15-15 with three ends to play but Moira Headley's trio won all three and the game 19-15.
Maureen Wood looked set to retain the women's fours as she led 18-11 with five ends to play but Dorothy Bellwood's team fought back and won all five to level at 18-18 and then picked up a single on the extra end to deprive Wood.
Barry Johnson easily beat Mal Beavers 22-6 in the mixed pairs, although the Beavers team fared better in the mixed triples as they ran out 20-14 winners over Betty Petty's team.
In the club triples, Post Office (Vic Wolley) beat Hedgehogs (Bob Howland) 21-13 and in the club mixed fours, Heworth Conservatives (Les Jackson) beat Tockwith (Don Moss) 25-13. Clarence (Paul Dawson) took the club men's fours title, beating Bert Keech (Bill Waldie) 27-20.
There were three exciting games in the veterans' competitions, with Les Stephenson taking his first fours title with a 16-13 defeat of Barry Harrison.
Eric Tyler's team went into the last end three down and scored a four to beat Pat Walker's three in the mixed triples.
In the men's triples, Jack Walker's side nudged in front 17-16 with a four on the 16th end only for Alwyn Fletcher to strike back with a three to win 19-17.
At Thanet Road, John Stroughair finished the season in style with successes in the men's triples and men's fours to go with his side's mixed triples title. In the triples they beat Graham Brooke's team 19-9, winning all but six ends, and in the fours they lost only five ends as they beat Roger Ford's team 22-7.
In the veterans' pairs final, Frank Turner's team scored a seven on the tenth end to lead 12-7. Ken Hutson's duo levelled on the next end with a five but then lost eight of the next ends and the game 24-14.
Stan Fawcett's team took the veterans' triples title as they went from 4-3 down against Alex Giles's team to lead 13-4 over four ends, en route to a final score of 22-13.
Turner had another success in the veterans' fours. After having a 15-11 lead with 13 ends gone, his team won six out of seven ends to beat Peter Littlewood's side 29-14.
