WHICHEVER site they decided on as best for the new Arc Light hostel, councillors were always going to upset someone. That was inevitable on an issue as sensitive as this.

York council sought people's views, and then whittled down the list of sites to just four.

There were some grumbles about the limited capacity of the Guildhall for yesterday's crucial meeting, and on the whereabouts of a petition opposing the Union Terrace option. At any event, representatives of residents living near each of the sites were given the chance to make their views known. But with a protest against yesterday's decision already in the offing, it seems certain we have yet to hear the last on this.
