York's visit to Hull in the Yorkshire ECB Premier League brought them little comfort as the hosts took the spoils with a two-wicket victory in a dogged low scoring match.

Although Steve Piercy and Dan Wilson gave the visitors a good start taking the score to 70 after only 17 overs, York's batsmen failed to follow though and wickets fell regularly.

The main destroyer was Jim Hodgson, who ripped out York's middle order.

Only a robust last partnership between debutant paceman Colin Palmer and 'keeper Nigel Durham added modest respectability with 30 off as many deliveries

With 67 overs to achieve victory, Hull's innings followed the York pattern but Hodgson, clearly man of the match, fought his way though to victory with an unbeaten 69 off 154 balls.

At 132-8 and 14 overs remaining, York were in with a chance but Steve Powdrell proved a staunch ally to pass the post with three overs left.

Mark Bell was York's best bowler earning 3 wickets for only 40 off 19 overs.

Hull won by 2 wkts.

Andrew Gale, who hit a century for Yorkshire II against Durham at Stamford Bridge last week, gave the county selectors another reminder of his talents with a Yorkshire League century for Driffield.

He blasted an unbeaten 163 in his side's 292-1 against Rotherham.

However, Rotherham comfortably held out for a draw at 277-6, opener Afaq Raheem making 102.
