EAST Yorkshire Winter Alliance champions Malton and Norton GC ladies had another successful outing, this time with male partners at Hornsea.

Club pro Steve Robinson teamed up with Malton ladies' captain Val McKendry to win the best gross prize for the pro event, while Emma Duggleby and Richard Brown collected the best amateur gross prize. In the same amateur competition, Judith Fishburn and Eddie Ruddock were second with Mo Clark and Vic Thornton in fourth.

Meanwhile, despite blustery conditions Fishburn and Clark posted an emphatic 6 and 5 triumph over their Flamborough Head GC hosts in the second round of the ladies Daily Mail Foursomes competition.

Karen's triumph

FOREST Park GC lady captain Margaret Skilbeck got the new season under way with her drive-in.

That shot heralded the start of the Spring Trophy, which was won by Karen Hajba. Her 37 stableford points proved six clear of her nearest challenger. Skilbeck's chosen charity for this year is the Arthritis Research Campaign.

The men's captain Ken Turner announced his charity as the Friends of York Hospital and his opening event, the Charity Shield, was won by junior member Luke Phillippo, who also won by six shots.

Aller up

ALLERTHORPE Park GC 22-handicapper Brian Walker won the club's Lombard Trophy qualifier with a nett 63 to earn a trip alongside club professional James Calam for the regional final at Hesketh GC on June 2. Walker's fine score saw his handicap trimmed by three shots.

Ramsey rules

SELBY GC toppled their Fulford counterparts in a sudden-death play-off in their third round Mail on Sunday National Club Classic tie. The teams were locked at 2-2 before Chris Ramsey beat Richard Cass at the first extra hole.
