STEVE Stone joked that someone will have to give him directions to the Elland Road pitch if he makes his long awaited Leeds United debut against Crewe tomorrow.

Manager Kevin Blackwell says he will "leave no stone unturned" in his attempt to find a winning formula for next month's promotion play-offs and he intends using the final two Championship matches for that purpose.

Stone could be one of Blackwell's experiments against Crewe and at Preston on Sunday, April 30, and the former England winger said: "I've had two run-outs in the reserves and I know I'll be fit for the play-offs.

"Those who have played their part for most of the season will want to play, but that is up to the manager. I've done a lot of strengthening work during my long spell out injured and I feel as fit as I have ever done.

"If I do get a chance, someone will have to show me the way on to the pitch at Elland Road."

Crewe are already relegated, while Leeds are looking to finish in third or fourth place so they will be away first in the play-offs. Rob Hulse, who started his career at Crewe, will be keen to play against the Railwaymen, but Blackwell must decide whether to risk his joint top scorer or wrap him and other key players in cotton wool for the play-offs.

Blackwell said: "We are building for the important matches in May now. We might just have a look at a few things this weekend and next. Steve Stone took another step forward in the reserves this week and over the next couple of first team games we'll look at getting him involved at some point.

"He's a first class player with a first class attitude and that's why I signed him."
