CENTRE midfielder Manny Panther says he doesn't want the season to end - if only to give him a chance to break his goal duck.

The 21-year-old Scot has played a key role at the hub of the York City in 34 games so far this season - but, despite showing his goal-scoring pedigree last year at Partick Thistle, he has as yet failed to find the back of the net in his maiden season in English football.

"That's the main thing I've been disappointed about," he said. "Last season I scored a few goals for Partick Thistle.

"But what was important to us this season was it was all about the team and the midfielders have been creating goals - it shows in the amount of goals that the forwards have scored.

"That's a real testament to the team as a whole because without the team, they wouldn't have scored that amount of goals.

"It's something I'm proud of still, that I've been involved in a team that has contributed to so many goals."

Tomorrow's game at Stevenage (3pm) will not only give Panther a chance to exorcise that particular mini-demon, but it will also give the York side to right the wrong of January.

He said: "They beat us at home and we played them off the park but that's been the story of our season.

"We've played well against the teams from the top five but we've never managed to get the win so it would be nice to get a victory against them."

Recent performances have left a bitter taste in the mouths of the players according to the team vice-captain - but the focus is not on individual fates despite contract decisions still to be made.

He said: "We have had a full season to do that so it's not all about trying to impress, it's about doing well for the team, taking it from there and building for next year from what we have achieved together this season.

"It's all about the wider issue - it's not about the immediate future."

He added: "For us, the season's not over. We are definitely trying to get maximum points. There's no point thinking we have got nothing to play for. We've come a long way from last year - the gates are up and I am sure the fans have enjoyed it.

"I've certainly enjoyed it. It's been a really good season - I don't want it to end.

"It will be nice to send the fans off on their holidays with two wins and plenty to be positive about."
