I WAS disappointed to read Mr A Dixon having a quick swipe at the increase in the precept set by Bishopthorpe Parish Council (Letters, March 30).

Mr Dixon, as a past chairman of Bishopthorpe Parish Council, should have known the reasons behind the increase as these have been published on a regular basis following discussions in parish council meetings during the past 12 months.

He had every opportunity to raise any queries directly with the parish council at our monthly meetings, but to put the increase in perspective, it is 17p per week for a Band D household.

The extra finance raised will be used to improve the village hall, maintain and develop sports and recreational amenities and support the local Crossroads Project.

This should ensure that the facilities within the village are provided and maintained to a high standard, thereby enhancing the life of all who live in Bishopthorpe.

Stewart Harrison,

Chairman, Bishopthorpe Parish Council,

Keble Park South,

Bishopthorpe, York.
