York City boss Billy McEwan has called on top scorer Andy Bishop to show the same level of commitment for club as country.

Bishop scored a goal in the England National Game XI's 3-1 victory over an Italian Serie 'C' representative side in midweek.

The 23-year-old striker also earned rave reports for his display at Cambridge United's Abbey Stadium and McEwan is expecting a repeat performance from the Minstermen's 15-goal leading marksman at Exeter City tomorrow.

McEwan said: "It was nice for him to score and represent the club in the way he did.

"I did not go to the game on Wednesday as it was a long way down and back for me and I had the rest of the players to think about, but we had representatives from the club there and, by all accounts, he was running around like a spring chicken so we will want the same commitment and effort from him at Exeter, if selected."

Bishop is set to partner Clayton Donaldson at St James Park with McEwan expected to retain the 4-4-2 formation used in the 3-2 home victory over Aldershot on Sunday.

That means new signing Neil Bishop will continue in the centre of midfield and skipper Mark Hotte will be on the bench.

McEwan enjoyed his first victory as City manager at Exeter last February and admitted he would welcome the same result. He said: "I'd settle for another 1-0 win. They are a strong, physical side and we have had battles with them last season and this season."

The players have received extra time off this week following the energy-sapping win against Aldershot and the team will also stay in Devon tonight to prepare for the match correctly.

But right-back Jamie Price will still be missing from the squad although he has returned to light training following a hernia injury that has kept him sidelined since November.

On-loan Chesterfield striker Tcham N'Toya has also returned to Saltergate for treatment on a hip problem which rules him out of tomorrow's match.

McEwan, meanwhile, has apologised to City's female following for comments he made after Sunday's home game with Aldershot.

The City boss explained that he only meant most women would prefer to go shopping than watch football on a Saturday afternoon, saying: "I have to apologise to the lady fans of York City who give us tremendous support.

"I just meant most women like to go shopping, which they do. My missus loves shopping but still comes to games.

"The point I wanted to make about Sunday matches was fans tend to make more noise on a Saturday. The atmosphere is never the same on a Sunday. Players don't like Sundays either because they want time off with their families."
