DERBY day for Selby and York RUFC will have an added twist tomorrow as Clifton Park fly-half Carl Paterson returns to his former club.

Paterson plays his first game for York since returning from Italy, where he tried his luck in the Azzuri leagues. He is sure to play a key role for the York club against their nearest rivals.

Neither side is threatening the promotion places in Yorkshire One, but pride - and a fiesty crowd - should mean fireworks at Sandhill Lane.

It's a much revamped York XV, with Fijian Billy Cankatabula moved from wing to outside centre in a bid to give the Clifton Parkers a bit more guile in the midfield.

Mike Ford switches to full back, to make way for Paterson, while Mike Westwood steps up to the wing with try scoring machine Rob Kama.

Stu Davies makes a welcome return to the side at flanker, and scrum-half Graeme Smith's inclusion after injury means York can finally field the half-back combination which terrorised defences at the start of the campaign.

Club spokesman Stuart Copeland said the Clifton Parkers were optimistic, despite the absence of Rob Taylor, who starts a four-game suspension after being sent off during a second team fixture, and centre Nick Ventress.

"We are very pleased to have Carl back," he said. "While it is not our strongest team we have a good competitive side and we are looking forward to seeing Billy in the centre."

With Richard Taylor, Rich Topping and Darren Hunter all unavailable through injuries picked up in a disastrous 27-15 defeat at Goole last week, Selby have had to re-organise for the York game.

In the backs, Toby Pemberton switches to full back with Andy Bennett restored to his normal position at centre. Matthew Smith returns at scrum-half.

Andy Gabel, after being sidelined with back problems, returns on the wing. Dan Porter retains his position at fly-half after impressing in recent weeks with his general play and his place-kicking, which may be an important factor for the hosts tomorrow.

In the forwards, Paul Gabel starts at prop with Richard Fuller, involved for the last time before his return to New Zealand, on the bench.

Jason Cicero starts in the second row with Mathew Mills.

Ben Aked, Kevin Lowery at number 8 and Duncan Phillips make up the back row with Wright Phillips and Martin Protheroe joining Fuller on the bench.

Club spokesman Stephen Ward said: "Selby will have to play much better than they have done in recent weeks if they are to take anything from this game and avoid their fifth successive loss in the League."
