"I'M not a traditionalist," said Billy McEwan yesterday, "but I think Saturdays are for the women to go shopping and the men to go to the pub and watch football."
Which is like the York City manager saying: "I'm not old fashioned, but I think we should bring back the leather lace-up football and half-time cigarettes."
City director Sophie McGill has stepped in to bring Billy up to speed. A third of the club's fans are women, she points out, and for them KitKat Crescent rather than Coney Street is the essential weekend destination.
Being so focused on football, Billy may not have realised that some modern men enjoy shopping. And on Sundays too. We'd like to hear his view on these developments, but fear they might be unprintable.
