Losing experienced front man Lee Nogan 20 minutes in wouldn't have been in Pickering Town manager Alex Mathie's mind when he said he was quietly confident about the FA Vase fifth round match.

But it was Nogan's replacement Liam Salt who knocked in James Drinkall's 72nd-minute deflected shot at Wimborne Town to make the 600-mile round trip worth every minute as they pocketed £2,000 and a quarter-final tie.

It had been pretty much one-way traffic from the off for the Pikes with chances falling to Mark Swales, uncle Steve and Dean Macauley.

But it was hosts Wimborne who were in the driving seat at half time after a 28th minute free kick was turned in by Sam Percival after Carl Silburn had parried the initial shot.

An overhead kick worthy of the FA Cup cameras by Drinkall drew Pickering level after 48 minutes before Salt stole in with the winner to silence the majority of the 983-strong crowd.

The quarter-final match-up will be revealed later today.

Back in Northern Counties East League action, Selby Town moved up to seventh in the premier division after a hard fought 1-0 win at Glapwell.

It was a tight game with few chances with the Robins grabbing the winning goal in the 25th minute when Tom Matthews' shot was deflected in off Ian Twitchen with Glapwell 'keeper Louis Spriggs going the wrong way.

Graham Marchant rattled in a first-half hat-trick as Harrogate Railway raced to a 4-2 away win at Maltby Main.

All the goals were scored in the first half and the Rail were three up to the good within 15 minutes on the way to maintaining their top-four standing. Phil Turner got their fourth.

Battling Goole came up with the goods in their crunch relegation-clash away to Spalding United in UniBond division one to keep their heads above water once more.

Second-half strikes from Godwin Douglas and Mark Willoughby ensured a sigh of relief for the struggling Vikings in a game where Spalding rarely threatened the Goole goal in stark contrast to the 6-1 defeat earlier in the season.
