THERE is a very thin line between reporting issues for public interest and sensationalising stories to try to sell newspapers.
In resurrecting the wedding car controversy, which it started some while back (Where's The Proof, Ann?, January 30), I fear the Evening Press may be treading uncomfortably close to that line.
My personal politics do not necessarily align with those of York's Liberal Democrat group. However, I do recall that one of Coun Reid's former political opponents Peter Brown (ex-Conservative councillor) submitted a very reasoned letter in Ann's defence (October 25). That closely mirrored my own thoughts, and I hope that his common sense view will prevail. I also hope members of the Labour group will return to their substantive role of mounting reasoned opposition, and stop baying for the blood of one individual colleague councillor.
When I was a lad, my mother banged a few heads together once in a while to end an argument. I wish I could do likewise now.
