YORK City top scorer Andy Bishop turned down a deadline day transfer to League Two outfit Bury.

The Shakers offered City a transfer fee for their 14-goal leading marksman but Bishop decided against a move after failing to agree personal terms.

City's Conference rivals Halifax Town also made a bid for Bishop before the transfer window closed at midnight on Tuesday but their offer was considered too small by Minstermen manager Billy McEwan.

The 23-year-old striker will now see out his contract at KitKat Crescent until the end of the season.

City should still be entitled to a fee for the former Walsall striker in the summer if he leaves the club as long as he is offered an extension to his current deal.

About the interest in Bishop, McEwan said: "We had inquiries from Bury and Halifax. Bury made an offer and Halifax also put a small one in.

"He went to speak to Bury but could not agree terms and he did not talk to Halifax."

Bishop has scored 23 goals in 58 starts for the Minstermen since former player-manager Chris Brass signed him from Walsall in the summer of 2004.

Had Bishop joined Bury he would have played alongside Brass, who joined the Gigg Lane club last month.

Conference clubs will now only be able to conduct loan deals between now and the end of the season when the permanent transfer window will re-open.

Other deals that went through before this week's deadline included a move for former City transfer target Mark Jackson.

Ex-Leeds and Scunthorpe defender Jackson left Kidderminster for Rochdale in a £35,000 deal that also saw striker Iyesden Christie follow him to Spotland.

Sheffield United left-back Evan Horwood, who recently spent six weeks on loan at KitKat Crescent, has joined League Two side Chester City on the same terms.

City's club shop is currently holding a half-price sale. Fleeces, tracksuits and training tops are all included with up to 50 per cent off normal price.
