WINGER Bryan Stewart will be hoping for a recall to the York City squad having missed the last two matches for "disciplinary reasons."

Stewart, 20, has not figured as a substitute in City's last two matches against Grays Athletic and Southport and also played no part in last week's reserve fixture at Scunthorpe.

Minstermen boss Billy McEwan did not want the reasons for Stewart's recent omission to be made public but confirmed that he has now served his punishment and, if needed, would be available for tomorrow's Conference clash at Woking.

McEwan said: "Bryan Stewart has missed the last two matches because of disciplinary reasons over an internal and private matter. I've been disappointed with his attitude and he's got to learn.

"He's a young player and must know that he can't take the law into his own hands, as he has done. We are running a professional football club not a Sunday League team."

Stewart could replace Leo Bertos in the party that travels to Woking this afternoon for an overnight stay.

Former Rochdale striker Bertos, who has spent the last two months at KitKat Crescent on a non-contract basis, could be allowed to leave the club after interest from elsewhere.

McEwan said: "For a player with his experience, he has not done enough for a permanent contract."

A debriefing session has been held this week concerning the Minstermen's poor showing in Tuesday night's 0-0 home draw with bottom club Southport.

But McEwan admitted that he kept his criticism in context with his team's efforts over the rest of the season, saying: "A few choice words have been said but I haven't stripped the paint off the walls as I might have done a few years ago.

"There have not been many times we have played like that at home but you get that now and again. We have got to learn from it and then erase it from the memory.

"You can look into things too heavily and let it worry you. We had a bad day at the office but, despite losing, they were magnificent on Saturday and they can't become bad players in three days.

"We won our last away game at Crawley and we will go to Woking with confidence because I am still proud of the players I have got here."

But McEwan is not reading too much into Woking's poor home form that has seen them fail to win a league match in front of their own supporters since October 1.

He said: "Stevenage's away form wasn't brilliant before they came to us and Grays had not won since November so stats are for statisticians. I am sure they will be out to stop us playing but we have got to be up for it."
