YORK Indoor Bowls Club teams have endured a nightmare few days.

They were thrashed 83-44 by Cumbria in the Yetton Trophy zone final 83-44, lost 79-67 to Hull in the Yorkshire League and went down 92-58 to Featherstone in the Hebden Trophy.

Yetton Trophy clashes against Cumbria are usually close affairs, but not this one as York lost all four rinks.

Carol Instone, playing in Carlisle, lost 17-15 after dropping a two on their last end and Linda Harrison's home team dropped singles on the last two ends in a 14-11 defeat.

Helen Walker's four were well beaten 27-9 and Melanie Brooke's quartet were sunk 25-9.

York's hopes of retaining the Yorkshire League title virtually disappeared when they lost to Hull and only managed to pick up five points.

David Stroughair's rink won 17-15, aided by a three on the 20th end, though Phil Emmerson's team dropped a two on their last end and drew 20-20 after they had pulled back from 18-14 down.

Mick Parker's team lost by the odd shot at Hull and Mark Clarke's four were well-beaten 27-14.

Dennis Haw's team were the only winners in the Hebden Trophy, which was enough to claim the home aggregate points 26-13. They produced a great finish to score ten shots, including a six over the last four ends without reply. Eric Hodgson's team were on the back foot for most of their game and went down 20-13, while at Featherstone both rinks were never in the game, Alwyn Johnson's going down 25-12 and Brian Thomas' 34-7.

New Earswick bounced back in the Yorkshire League second division by beating promotion rivals Hornsea 90-67 to pick up the maximum 18 points.

Bob Edwards won 17-13 and Bill Waldie was tied at 18-18 with four ends to play before winning 23-19.

Barry Johnson's four continued their recent impressive performances with a 26-21 victory at Hornsea, while Ken Harrison's team led from start to finish to win 24-14.

Earswick's Hebden Trophy team set up a mouth-watering finish to the group as they beat Doncaster 115-49, picking up 16 points.

Barry Harrison's team won all but five ends at Doncaster scoring sixes on the 12th and 14th ends to romp home 42-9, though Bob Howland's side got off to a bad start trailing 12-1 after seven ends and went down 18-12.

At home, Jim Bone's four scored a six on the second end to lead 7-0 and never looked back, winning 30-8. Gordon Storey's team similarly had an easy game, picking up a seven on the seventh end to lead 14-7, and kept the lead throughout to win 31-14.

New Earswick now top the group, two points ahead of York, who they play in their last game on March 4.
