I WOULD like to comment on the article regarding restrictions on visitors during elderly patients' mealtimes (December 20).
My mother was in York Hospital from December 5, 2003, to February 2, 2004, when sadly she passed away.
Because she had no interest in food, to ensure she ate something, however little, I returned to the hospital at 5pm to feed her everyday.
I agree that people who have travelled a long distance to visit a patient should be allowed to do so, but please do not underestimate the value of relatives who are only too willing to help with the feeding of their loved ones, therefore helping to relieve the pressure on nursing staff.
I would like to add that my mother received the utmost care and kindness while she was in hospital.
