SO Ian Tomlinson says drivers don't go through red lights in York (Letters, December 9).
The perfectly good points he raises about cyclists is undone by this amazingly daft observation.
Ian may like to know that I always see drivers accelerating through red lights at the two junctions I pass through going to and from work, with no thought for the safety of others.
Today's journey had six red light-jumpers and one car going the wrong way up a one-way street. And that's without a word about the dozens of unauthorised cars using Coppergate when access is denied to regular traffic. I'm afraid I'd rather get hit by a cyclist than a car, if I had to choose.
Of course, if the police did something about all the offences mentioned in recent days, the revenue from the fines may mean we all get a rebate on our council tax bills next year. Just a thought.
A Tessier,
Rose Street,
York.
