CASH flow problems caused by fixture mayhem meant York City's players missed out on an overnight stay in Hereford last night.

Billy McEwan's men were instead making the three-and-a-half hour trip to Edgar Street this morning for their important Conference clash.

Finance director Terry Doyle admitted that in an "ideal world" the players would have travelled to Shropshire last night but revenue had been "hit" by the recent lack of home games.

By the time City entertain Northwich Victoria in the FA Trophy next weekend, Minstermen supporters will have waited 39 days for a KitKat Crescent clash.

Doyle has also pointed out that, with a possible seven home matches in the following 38 days, fixture congestion could also have a damaging effect on finances and thanked the club's creditors' patience in difficult times.

The drop in income has also come just two months before the club is required to meet its first £100,000 repayment towards the £2million Football Foundation loan and Doyle said: "That's still something that we have got in hand. The Supporters' Trust has taken the responsibility for helping us with that and it is something that was taken into account when we were budgeting our cash flow."

City's home game with Stevenage has now been rearranged for Tuesday, January 10.
