THE enthronement of the new Archbishop Dr John Sentamu was as unorthodox as any church ceremony I have ever attended.

The excitement, the joy and the noise at this wonderful event bore witness to the emergence of a quite extraordinary man who we have been extremely lucky to welcome as our new Archbishop of the north. I never thought I would ever see bishops, priests, deacons and church readers dancing and swaying back and forwards at an enthronement service in the wonderful York Minster.

The future for the church in the north is now entering a new era, and not before time.

May God richly bless Dr Sentamu and his family and may we all press forwards to a new beginning.
