UNIVERSITY Staff Club Ladies were in sizzling form at Fulfordgate in Division Two of the York Badminton League.

They stormed to an 8-1 victory with Sue Scott and Lynn Terry racing to three wins for 90-34, while Jean Davison and Lorraine Gregory picked up 'Gate's consolation.

York RI whitewashed Clifton in Men's One with Richard Pauw and Tim Jarvis topping the home averages with a return of 96-37, but were pushed to a third rubber by Daniel Woolfson and Koichero Mori.

Shepherd's opened their Men's Division One account with a 6-3 win over Riverside. Tony Bebington and Roger Martin shone for Shepherds with three wins, but were given a fright by Ian McKinlay and Geoff Oxley before winning 15-8, 7-15, 18-16.

York RI Tuesday/Thursday 'A' scored back-to-back wins in the Men's One. They followed a 7-2 home win over Selby Jubilee with the same score at Selby/Drax 'B'. Ian Sinker and Wasten Siallagan took Institute maximums in both matches and recorded a six-rubber total of 180-81.

Clifton 'C' made a winning start in Mixed Two with a 7-2 victory over Pocklington. Simon Christian and Sandra Robinson were the pick of the home pairs with three wins, including a seven and eight over Chris Kunkel and Sally Howat, who took both Pocklington successes.

Riverside 'B' were made to work by YUSC 'A' before coming out on top in Mixed Division Three. Nigel Stainforth and Sue Sharp completed their maximum, and won the match at 5-4, thanks to a 11-15, 15-5, 17-15 success over Sue Scott and Gary Turner in the final rubber.

Lisa Ward and Andrew Dunning led Selby/Drax 'C' to a 7-2 win over University Students 'C' in Mixed Division Four. Their return of 90-34 included a nine and six over Andy Bremnar and Lauren Chapman.

York RI Tuesday/Thursday 'B' had mixed fortunes in Mixed Four.

They beat YUSC 'B' 6-3 but lost 6-2 to St John's in a time affected match. The St John pairing of George Noble and Zia Ojanma swung the match against RI with a 15-4, 12-15, 15-13 over Mike Edwards and Pat Ambler.

Fulfordgate 'B' visited Tadcaster 'B' in Mixed Five and lost 7-2. A Cooper and M Harrad headed the Tadcaster returns with an easy maximum for a total of 90-22.

Fulfordgate's next match on the road against Market Weighton saw them edge a 5-4 win. Gary Hall and Sandra Whittaker took the vital win with a 17-15, 17-16 victory over K Marshall and Sue Smith.

Terry's broke their duck in Mixed Five with a well taken 7-2 victory at Selby Jubilee 'C'. Pat Santin and Chris Smethurst led the visitors' charge with three straight wins for 90-34.
