POCKLINGTON RUFC produced an excellent performance to convincingly beat West Park Leeds 34-19 in Yorkshire Two.

Pocklington had a try disallowed before they produced a slick back move

that sent left wing Tim Nixon blasting under the posts for Henry Mitchell to convert.

West Park were level within two minutes with a seven-point try but Pocklington's forwards soon produced an unstoppable drive from a lineout 20 yards out, flanker Alex Stuart getting the touchdown and Mitchell adding another conversion.

When West Park tried to respond soon after Pocklington's player coach, Guy Hope, inspired his side when he wiped out West Park's former Great Britain rugby league star, Jimmy Lowes, with a thumping tackle.

Mitchell added a penalty as Pock turned up the heat and West Park had three players sin-binned just before half-time.

Pock were unable to take advantage of their numerical superiority until Mitchell banged over a 40 yard penalty.

A West Park breakaway score closed the gap to 20-12. But Pocklington were in no mood to loosen their grip. After the home forwards had twice been thwarted by West Park collapsing a rolling maul, centre Guy Wilson waltzed under the posts, Mitchell converting.

West Park tried to rally in the final quarter despite having a fourth player sent to the bin for foul play, and the visitors were boosted by a penalty try decision.

But Pocklington again made sure they turned pressure into points to kill off the game. Their hard working pack, typified by the endeavour of skipper Matt Atkinson who was playing out of position in the second row, had again been denied a score on the left because the referee was unsighted. But they remained on the offensive and moved the ball wide right where winger Harry Allen weaved over. Mitchell made it six goals from six attempts as he sent the touchline conversion sailing over.

Harrogate slumped to their eighth successive National 2 defeat in losing 30-8 at home to Launceston.
