FOREST Park GC proved the big movers in the rain-hit latest events in the York Union of Golf Clubs' Cross Trophy competition.
The No 6 event at Pike Hills was washed out by the torrential rain, but the No 5 contest beat the elements at Fulford, GC where last pair out Darren Meek (six handicap) and Russ Chilton (2) of Pike Hills returned a 62 in failing daylight only to find it had been bettered by one stroke by the Forest Park pairing of Bob Mason (5) and Steve Fowler (18).
Four groups behind were tied on 66, with the count-back giving Zig Curtis (6) and Walter Gomersall (12) of York third place. Once again, penalties were imposed for slow play, but most players are in favour of the steps that have been taken to try to improve the pace of play at these events.
In the race for the Cross Trophy, Forest Park swapped places with Fulford, moving from fourth to second behind Malton and Norton. The best aggregate three-score total of the day was 200 for Pike Hills to hoist them two places to sixth.
Latest placings (after five rounds): Malton and Norton 993; Forest Park 999; Heworth 1,000; Fulford 1,005; Kirkbymoorside 1,010; Pike Hills 1,016.
