The world's top 32 players, including Ronnie O'Sullivan, Paul Hunter, Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, world champion Shaun Murphy and UK defending champion Stephen Maguire, plus 16 qualifiers will be battling for the title.

Ticket prices start at £6.50 and seats can be booked on line on www.ticketmaster.co.uk or call 0870 4000 670. Personal bookings can be made at the Barbican Centre during the tournament.

Meanwhile, York snooker youngster Steve Gregson reached the last 16 of the English Junior Tour's second event of the season. The 16-year-old from Stockton on Forest finished fourth in his group of nine to go through to the last 32 in Bristol and then won his first knockout round match before being beaten.

Gregson, who also reached the last 16 in the first Junior Tour event at Northampton, returns to Bristol this weekend to play in a Senior Tour competition.

He has qualified for the final stages of the U21 and the U16 competitions at Potters Club, Coalville, Leicester but might have to miss the U16 finals on December 3 as this could clash with the English Open junior tournament, which would be his first preference.

Gregson is now in fourth place overall in the Pontin's U21 Premier Series of monthly tournaments at Prestatyn, with two events remaining, next April and May. A top eight finish will earn him a place in one of the Pontin's select teams to play in international tournaments.
