'VE just seen the new building in Spurriergate, York. Graeme Rudd's letter (October 31) had prepared me for some disappointment, but not how much.
I'm saddened to feel so turned off by this newly-revealed concrete and glass blob, because I happen to like looking at good architecture, and this is bland and boring.
I hope the developers who do Castle/Piccadilly will do a lot better. In fact, if this is an example of modern building, it's another argument to leave as much of the Castle Area as an unbuilt and open urban park, with a few trees which don't have to try hard to be beautiful.
John Cossham,
Hull Road, York.
