OUTGOING Selby GC captain Peter O'Neill signed off his year with a tribute to the club's Yorkshire Union divisional team.
The team started out in division five, but had set the target of playing in the first division matches to be held at Selby later in the summer.
That ambitious goal was achieved after Selby qualified in the top six of each of the divisional matches before finishing fifth out of 18 clubs in the top flight on their own Brayton Barff course.
And the boost from that performance is that Selby will play in the first division from the start of next season.
The Selby scratch team, of which O'Neill was a part, also excelled. They bagged third place in the Leeds and District League first division and reached the knockout competition semi-finals.
