YORK City Ladies are marching on into uncharted territory after taming Crewe Vagrants 2-1 in the first round proper of the FA Women's Cup.

They will now go to Yorkshire rivals Leeds City Vixens of the Northern Combination in the second round on November 13 knowing that another win is not impossible.

Manager Joey McGrory said: "They beat us twice in the league last year, but we beat them in the cup so I'm sure when the girls see the draw they will think 'we did them in the cup last year so we can do it again'."

Midland Combination side Crewe, two leagues above York, had the ascendancy early on, but Nicki Witter and Abbi Webster snuffed out the attacks and York gained in confidence.

Good interplay between Kelly Chesterton and Kelly Shepherd saw Shepherd upended just outside the box and she dusted herself down before curling home a free kick

The two Kellys again worked well together to release Shepherd on a mazy run and when she was brought down in the box, Chesterton polished off the penalty with style to put City 2-0 up.

York's 50-plus travelling crowd gave the feel of a home match and they needed the support after Crewe pulled one back after a series of corners with an agonising six minutes left.

City Ladies Under-14s cruised into the second round of the RAF West Riding Girls' Football League Cup by beating Nostell 4-0.

Lauren Haigh put the visitors in front after eight minutes and some excellent defence led by captain Becky Barton kept Nostell out.

Gen Wells netted twice for the second time in as many weeks in the second half, with Abby Shoobridge sandwiching one in between Wells' double.

Knaresborough Town Ladies put eight past Grimsby to boost their North East Regional Women's League campaign.

Strikers Helen Wood and Charlie Blythe both netted hat-tricks in the 8-0 away win.

Ali Purvis had a hand in at least two of their mini-rout and added one of her own in the second half .

Captain Kirstie Power sealed the win with a fierce long-range effort, with chairwoman Brenda Johnson watching from the stands after being sent from the touchline by the referee after expressing her frustration at the lack of protection for her players.

Town's goal frenzy took their two-week tally to 17, after sending Farsley Celtic out of the West Riding County Cup 9-1.

Blythe knocked in five, Wood struck another hat-trick and Purvis got in on the act.

Town face Keighley at Manse Lane on Sunday (2pm kick off).
