THE Bah'i community of York were disturbed by the recent report in the Evening Press concerning the racist hate mail received by the new Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.
As believers in the oneness of the human race, and being against all forms of prejudice, we had welcomed the appointment of the first black archbishop as a positive step. The Bah'i community would like to give its support to the new Archbishop and wish him every success in his new role. To echo the former Archdeacon of York, Dr Sentamu must be the "best man for the job" to have been appointed. It is a shame that nothing seems to have appeared, following this report, in the local press in his support by local people.
In the Bah'i Writings it says: "Let them look not upon a man's colour but upon his heart. If the heart be filled with light, that man is nigh unto the threshold of His Lord; but if not, that man is careless of His Lord, be he white or be he black."
