Acomb collected several main individual prizes at the Hunters the Estate Agent York and District Senior Cricket league annual dinner at York Racecourse.

The Alan Shipley bowling award went to David Sykes, while his brother, Richard, claimed the Brian Shirley wicketkeeping award for the highest number of victims - 32, of which 15 were stumped.

For good measure, Acomb skipper Andy Tute was named the best representative player of the season after the York League's victory in the Nixon Yorkshire Inter-Leagues Knockout Cup, which was on display at the dinner.

The Des Wyrill batting award went to Woodhouse Grange's Nick Hadfield, who amassed 1,097 runs - the highest amount scored in the top division by a non-overseas batsman. His tally for the summer was bettered only by the prolific Australian Danny Harris, whose form with the bat did much to help Clifton Alliance lift the premier division title.

Neil Laidlaw of Thirsk was named the young player of the year.

Alliance skipper Richard Musgrave was presented with the league champions trophy by guest speaker Henry Olonga, the former Zimbabwe international bowler who also re-presented the npower National Village Cup to Sheriff Hutton Bridge skipper Paul Scaling.

The League Cup trophy was also presented to Woodhouse Grange skipper Mike Burdett.

Olonga, a trained opera singer, also sang to the 448-strong audience, which, for the first time, included six women at the dinner, all from Folkton and Flixton, who were crowned third division champions in their first season in the league.

Awards for sportsmanship went to Sessay (premier division), Pocklington (division one) and Hovingham (division two).
