NEXT week Gillygate is to be closed. Gillygate is an essential feeder route into York city centre for those who have to get there, particularly the workers who need to travel in and out during the peak periods.
The alternative routes will just clog up even more as those workers fight their way into the traffic streams which are already fully loaded.
This is a time when City of York Council could do one or two things to ease the burden.
1. Open Deangate to let the Malton Road/Huntington/Heworth Road flows through.
2. Drop the barrier in Stonebow.
But will the council show some traffic management enterprise and forethought?
