WHAT better evidence of the Liberal Democrats' blame culture, highlighted in your front page headline last Wednesday, than on the inside pages of the same edition.

Coun Sue Galloway blames York's residents for her decision to cut transport to college for disabled young people ("Fury as vulnerable students' service is axed").

Let's be clear - the decision to stop providing this transport was made by the Liberal Democrats and by them alone.

I don't believe York's residents would support this action that hits some of our most vulnerable young people.

These college courses are vital for these young people to give them the chance to learn skills that will increase their independence and boost their self-confidence.

In addition, going to college gives a wider educational and social experience that is important for every young person.

They deserve all the support they need to make sure they can make the most of college opportunities.

Coun Galloway says she is not "obliged to provide" this transport. What she means is that she doesn't have a statutory duty.

But doesn't the council have a moral duty, a duty to invest in the education and the future independence of these young people?

Labour councillors voted against cuts like this at budget time because we wanted to make sure these services were protected.

We call on the council to give each of these young people help and support to make sure they have transport to allow them to continue to go to college.

The Liberal Democrats can take no pride in this decision.

Labour spokesperson for

services.
