Malton and Norton scored four tries as they overran Acklam 30-3 on a wet day on Teesside.

The damp conditions made handling difficult and Acklam drew first blood with a penalty for offside at a ruck. However, that was the last they saw of the game as Malton took control to take the Durham and Northumberland One points.

The mobility of the Malton pack was key with Carl Muscroft again to the fore. From a maul on half-way, second-row Duncan Foster and Muscroft made ground to set up quick ball for Tim Carney, who carved through to the posts, Ian Cooke converting.

Carney and fellow centre Ryan Lonsdale were a handful all afternoon and, while further try-scoring chances were missed as passes went astray in the conditions, Cooke added two penalties for a 13-3 half-time lead.

As the rain eased, Malton became more assured and, although struggling in the set pieces, dominated the lineouts and provided quick ball for the backs, and on another day could have had a hatful.

They did score when, from a scrum five metres out, Malton broke blind and full-back Ben Hough scored his first try for the first-team. Then number eight Richard Webster did well from the base of a scrum 15 metres out and Cooke followed up to score, though there were claims of a knock-on.

The last move of the game saw Hough break along the touchline and feed sub Matt Williams, who crossed for Cooke to convert.
