YORK Acorn's 100 per cent record ended as Ince Rosebridge denied them a solitary try in a 12-4 result at Thanet Road.

West Hull's wining start to the National Conference division one season also came to an end with a crashing 40-4 defeat at Thatto Heath so the Blue and Golds remain in touch at the top, though West Bowling, who have dropped only one point this term, have now claimed pole position.

Ince's defence was superb throughout and, in fact, both rearguards impressed with only one try being scored at either end in the 80 minutes.

That came after only seven minutes as visiting stand-off Stuart Cassidy touched down, Lee Jukes booting the extras for an early 6-0 lead.

Acorn, for whom centre Mike Embleton impressed, hit back with two penalties goaled by Andy Henson but Ince, with full-back Chris Leyland on top form in defence, kept hold of a six-point lead at half-time as Jukes added two of his own.

There were no further counters throughout the entire second period until Jukes kicked his third penalty three minutes from time to leave Acorn in need of at least two scores, which they were unable to get.

It was fitting revenge for the Wigan side, whose own unbeaten start to last season was ended by Acorn in a year both sides won promotion from division two. It was their fifth game without defeat and they now trail Acorn by just one point in the table, the top four separated by just two points.
