TO join recent correspondence on this page about a memorial to RAF Bomber Command, the good news is that one effectively already exists in our area.
Look no further than Elvington, the location of the Yorkshire Air Museum and Allied Air Forces Memorial to give it its full title.
Founded almost a quarter of a century ago with the aims of becoming a living museum and a lasting memorial, this now well-established centre is a fitting tribute to Bomber Command, especially the Yorkshire-based squadrons.
With its restored Halifax aircraft, air gunners' room, control tower, extensive archives, memorial chapel and many other aspects, it provides a vivid and memorable experience that will stick in visitors' minds for a long time, just as an effective memorial should.
