PDR Construction has started work on a £2.9 million contract to build new premises in Market Weighton for Britcom International Limited, the used truck and construction equipment exporter.

The 30,000sq ft scheme comprises workshops for Britcom's service and engineering departments, a modern shotblasting and paintshop facility, and a new office block for the company's global sales and administration teams.

The contract is due for completion in June 2006, Britcom's 25th anniversary year, and will pave the way for 25 new jobs.

Chris Urwin of Britcom said: "We need to enhance our existing workshop facilities and storage space to cope with increased demand from overseas, and to enable the expansion of our UK retail vehicle engineering and painting service.

"The new larger premises, just a mile from our current location, will allow us to display our extensive stock of more than 300 trucks, trailers and plant equipment in a more customer-friendly layout.

"In a boost to the local economy, we also envisage ultimately increasing our 50-strong workforce by another 50 per cent."
