YORK City Knights will play Super League club Wakefield Trinity in a pre-season friendly as part of the deal that took Austin Buchanan to Belle Vue, the Evening Press can reveal.
The winger was allowed to go on loan to the Wildcats for the last month of the regular season as soon as the Knights had secured the National League Two title, and this allowed the top-flight club to run the rule over the try-scoring flier before any of their rivals.
Buchanan scored two tries in three games for Wakefield and impressed enough to earn a two-year contract, and in return for the loan arrangement, the Wildcats have agreed to the friendly encounter ahead of the 2006 season, with York keeping all the gate receipts.
The Knights have also lined up a friendly against Super League champions Leeds Rhinos, who have become regular pre-season opposition.
Dates of the matches are to be confirmed.
