Prince Of Light can carry the North Yorkshire flag to victory in the feature race at Newmarket tomorrow on the middle day of the Cambridgeshire meeting.

The Mark Johnston-trained colt goes for the Shadwell Stud Middle Park Stakes and, with Joe Fanning in the saddle, is napped to triumph in this Group 1 event, which has £170,000 prize money.

Winner of his last three starts, Prince of Light is improving with every race.

Having successfully broken his maiden status on his second outing, he then won a red-hot nursery race at York's Ebor Festival.

But it was his latest victory which strongly suggests to me that Prince of Light is capable of coping with tomorrow's step up to the major league.

In the Group 3 Sirenia Stakes on Newmarket's July course, he completed his hat-trick in the style of a high-class colt still on the upgrade.

His eight opponents tomorrow, however, look formidable. They include Amadeus Wolf, trained by Kevin Ryan at Hambleton and the winner of the Gimcrack Stakes at York last month.

He commands obvious respect, as do the Aidan O'Brien-trained pair Ivan Denisovich and Art Museum, while Always Hopeful is classy on the strength of his Richmond Stakes win at Goodwood and his subsequent third-placed effort in the Prix Morny in France.

Prince of Light has it to do if he is to beat these rivals but, with his confidence high, the Middleham colt can score a famous victory.

Munsef should go well in the Fishpools Furnishings Godolphin Stakes over a mile and a half.

John Dunlop's lightly-raced colt has had only three races this season, but has won two of them and looked a potential class act when winning the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot at York.

He has not been seen out since then, but Dunlop would not be pitching him into this Listed contest if he did not feel Munsef could give a good account of himself.

Polar Ben should not be overlooked in the Rolls-Royce Motors Cars London Joel Stakes.

Although James Fanshawe's colt has been largely playing for minor honours this season, he is useful in this sort of company. He won this Group 3 contest last year and an encore is possible.
