I AM very disappointed at the Evening Press's Bin It! campaign. How irresponsible to lobby against an idea that is forward-thinking, will save the environment and is, ultimately, inevitable anyway.

There is nothing anyone can say that will convince me (and many other fellow-recyclers) that one wheelie bin full of rubbish going to landfill every two weeks for a household of four is not enough.

There are so many ways to cut down on waste. I and my partner do not have a car and still manage to recycle about 75 per cent or more of our rubbish (and we don't even have a composter because we don't have a garden), which means we only need to put our landfill wheelie bin out about every six weeks.

We also live in a small terrace house so storage can be difficult but it's never impossible. It's just a matter of changing habits and, once people realise just how much can be recycled (albeit that they have to take it to one of the many recycle points throughout the city) they will wonder why they did not do it before and what all the fuss was about.

For example, why not buy your fruit and veg at the market or from local green grocers? Not only will this cut down on packaging, it will put money in the pockets of local people. If you have a garden, get a composter and put your vegetable waste to good use.

Leave two minutes earlier and take those pizza boxes to your nearest cardboard recycle skip on your way to work. Take your glass containers and foil/cans to the supermarket when you go shopping.

It's all about integrating recycling into your daily routine.
