TWO-GOAL hero Clayton Donaldson believes his choice of pre-match music helped York City get back to winning ways at Tamworth last night.

The Minstermen triumphed 3-0 at the Lamb Ground thanks to Donaldson's brace and a Mark Convery goal after the 21-year-old striker regained charge of the dressing room CD player.

Donaldson's compilation of R'n'B and hip-hop tunes was used before the 5-0 victory over Altrincham but James Dudgeon decided rock group The Killers would be a more appropriate choice ahead of Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Aldershot.

The result left Donaldson feeling vindicated in his belief that there was no need for change and, after last night's victory, he said: "I like anything with a groove but we had some group called The Killers or something on Saturday and you can see how terrible it was by the way we played in the first half at Aldershot. I just want to liven the lads up and it worked the last time I brought my CD in against Altrincham.

"I don't think the manager listens to the songs but, if it makes us play well and win games, I don't think he will change it."

Donaldson's double-strike last night took his tally to six for the season, having been credited with the first goal against Dagenham, and all of them were scored in his last six matches.

He has now netted in four consecutive matches but he did manage to score in seven straight games while playing for Hull City's reserve and juniors team.

The former Tiger is also already two-fifths of the way towards his goal target for the season with only a quarter of the campaign played.

Donaldson said: "I would be happy with 15. I said that at the start of the season and anything above that would be tremendous for my first season, which is always difficult because you don't know how you are going to get off.

"I didn't score for the first five games but, at the same time, I was contributing assists and I was pleased with that as well. It's nice to be on a scoring run though and, if the manager keeps playing me in the centre, there will be more chances for me to score more goals.

"I almost got a hat-trick against Tamworth but am happy with two goals and believe I will have another chance in the season to get a hat-trick. I'm on a high now and will be looking to get on the scoresheet again against Exeter on Saturday."

City Reserves are in action against Lincoln at KitKat Crescent tonight (7pm).
