Selby Town's climb up the Northern Counties East League premier division table was halted when they lost 3-1 to Harrogate Railway at Flaxley Road.

The Robins took the lead after 20 minutes when Matthew Wain knocked in the rebound after Ian Twitchen's shot hit a post.

Railway fought back well and equalised six minutes later through Scott Ryan and took the lead in the 38th minute when Chris Howarth scored.

Howarth was again on target ten minutes after the break and, despite some late pressure, the Robins were unable to get back into the game.

Goole's FA Cup dream came to an end last night after a late Gainsborough Trinity winner cancelled out Gary Shaw's equalising penalty in the second qualifying round replay.

UniBond League division one Goole stunned Nationwide North Gainsborough in Saturday's 2-2 draw but that element of surprise was clearly gone at Victoria Pleasure Grounds as Trinity raised their game in a fairly even contest.

The blank scoreline of the first half was scrapped when Caudwell rounded Goole goalkeeper Chris Hill to fire the visitors ahead on 53 minutes.

A Joe Gorman dummy on the edge of the box then reaped rewards as Steve Davey was tripped just inside the area for a penalty, which Shaw confidently rocketed to the 'keeper's left with 15 minutes remaining.

Extra time was on the horizon with penalties a fair reward for Goole, but Rowan picked up the ball from 40 yards out and held off the last defender to slot home a sickening winner.

Goole manager Paul Marshall said: "I thought we worked hard enough to get a draw and we deserved that at least.

"When we got the penalty, I thought it was going to be our day, but then they got the winner even though he looked a yard offside.

"Gainsborough played a lot better than on Saturday and that was our chance to win."

Lee Nogan kicked his dual club career off with a flying start last night after bagging two in Pickering Town's 5-1 NCEL premier division thumping of Thackley last night.

The Harrogate Town hitman, who will play for the Pikes midweek, made it 1-0 at half time before sandwiching a Michael McNaughton strike shortly into the second half with Mark Swales and sub Steve Baxter piling in the remainder.
