STILLINGTON Cricket Club stalwarts Dennis North and Eric Wade have clocked up an unbeaten century of service.

The pair have both been associated with the club for 50 years and players, supporters and friends gathered at the Hunters the estate agent York and District Senior Cricket League club's annual meeting to pay tribute to them.

North, who lives in the village, has had a long and distinguished career in local cricket. He still plays each week for Stillington's second eleven and, remarkably, topped the team averages this summer.

He also tends the playing fields at Stillington which are, among the best in the county. Players of hockey and football as well as cricket owe him a great debt for his never ceasing attention.

Wade, who lives in Tollerton with his wife Mavis, also first played for Stillington as a teenager and continued to bat on for many years.

More recently, having finished playing, he has umpired for both first and second teams, standing in all but one first team game this season.

He has also devoted time to coaching juniors and has made a significant contribution to the recent success of U15 and U14 sides at the club.

Both men were presented with inscribed tankards by club president Eddie Midgley, who paid warm tribute to the pair.
