DAVE Gibbons of Cygnet 'A' is the new York John Smith's Men's Darts individual champion.

He beat holder Chris Thompson (Sun 'A') 3-1 with a 180 and two 22 darters after Chris had chipped in with 17.

In the semi-finals, Gibbons beat Kev Richmond jnr (Slip Inn) 2-0 and Thompson saw off team-mate Jon O'Mara 2-1 with 19 and 16-dart legs.

Lee Brundrett-Keith Turner (Poacher) are the pairs champions after a 2-1 win over the Dave Gibbons-John Mooring (Cygnet 'A') combination, who took the first leg in just 19 darts before Brundrett (180) and Turner sealed it with 23.

Brundrett and Turner beat Col Rowntree-Rich Plummer (Crescent) 2-0, while Gibbons and Mooring defeated Chris Thompson-Tony Cooper (Sun 'A') with a deciding leg of 22 darts.

Thompson triumphed in the Captain Cup with 20 and a 180 for 18 darts for a 2-0 win over Kelvyn Frankel, (Crescent).

In the champion of champions competition, division one winners Sun 'A' beat division two winners Shepherd 5-1 with the help of 18 darts from Tony Cooper.

The three fastest finishes award was shared by Tony Cooper (14,14,16 for 44), Chris Thompson (14,15,15 for 44) and John Mooring (13,14,17 for 44).

The highest checkout of the season was 167 from Russ King (Flag 'A') and the most 180s came from Tony Cooper and Chris Thompson with four apiece. Cooper was named player of the season with 11 games of 21 and under.

A 6-3 win against Huntington WMC saw Volunteer open up an 11-point lead at the top of York Knavesmire Racing Darts League division one.

Paul Cooper closed on 144 (treble 18, treble 18 and double 18) for 21 and Mick Willsden notched a maximum as Volunteer went 4-1 up.

Phil Good then included a 110 out-shot before Heath Scaife-Daz Gray wrapped up the win. John Smith closed on 116 in the last pairs game.

Mark Hartley hit a maximum in Ebor's defeat at Crescent who had 19-darters from Mal Muncaster and Iain Smith.

Huntington WMC also defeated visitors Clifton 5-4. Martyn Turner opened up with 18 and 20 as Clifton went 3-0 up. Nick Harteveld's 122 bull finish for 18 spearheaded the comeback and John Smith put in 21 and 22 darts to level after the singles and then partnered Phil Good to seal the win.

In division two, Yearsley 'A' virtually wrapped up the title with a stunning 9-1 victory at Edinburgh with Mark Fratson closing in 20, while Bootham Tavern's 8-2 win at Jackdaw keeps them on course for the runners-up spot.

Palace went down to Groves but hung on for the aggregate point, while Gary Ward hit a 180 in Woolpack's win at Leeman.

Arthur and Ken Caple were Poppleton Road WMC's match-winners at Huntington SC 'A', while John Miller-Carol Stubbs sealed Cygnet's win at Reindeer.

With division three leaders Clifton not playing, Winning Post took full advantage with a 9-1 win at Bootham Tavern 'B', while Indoor Bowls recorded a superb win at high fliers Cygnet 'B', who had a 21-darter from England international Karen Smith.

Entries for the winter season have now closed.
