KNIGHTS boss Mick Cook was leaving it late to confirm his side for tomorrow's potential title-winning trip to Hunslet.

All the fit players in the squad - those who saw off London Skolars last week, plus those rested for that game - were in the running and Cook admitted it was tough choice.

"In the last two weeks, in training and in games, I don't think our standards have been as good as they should have been for this time of year," he explained.

"But we had a really good session on Thursday when the players responded really well with a lot of intensity, good attitude and good skill levels, and another last night, and it looks like minds are back on the job.

"We understand the importance of the run-in. These three games are against top-six teams, two away from home, so we know it will be tough."

He added: "This should be a pretty good match. Hunslet have some quality and dangerous players. Jermaine Wray tears you apart around the ruck if you're not careful, while George Rayner is one of the fastest players in the National League.

"They're a strong, aggressive, capable side. Roy Sampson (coach) has done a good job with them."

The Hawks have held something of a hoodoo sign over York recently, winning both games last year and the Northern Rail Cup match at South Leeds Stadium this season. However, it is hoped the last-gasp drop-goal win in the previous league meeting has killed off the jinx.

Cook added: "We've been there once this year and didn't perform but we've beaten them twice at home. It will be extremely tough. They're doing their best to get a good play-off place and our blokes are fully aware they are capable of beating anybody on their day.

"They always give you a real tough game and before we start thinking about winning titles, we've got to win personal battles on that field."

Sampson should have a strong side out with Anthony Gibbons and Mark Moxon available after knee problems, and Lee Williamson (neck) in the running. Experienced forward Mick Coyle (ribs) is a big doubt, though, and fellow prop Mark Shickell is unavailable.
